Hair removal: what exactly is it?
Salon hair removal takes the hair out with its root, unlike shaving which cuts it at the surface. Regrowth is therefore slower, finer and more even. Two techniques are used here: warm wax, which covers large areas such as the legs or bikini line quickly, and threading, which is far more precise on the face and brows, with no chemical contact with the skin at all.
The techniques
Which option is right for you?
- Waxing — Legs, arms, underarms, back, chest, face. Wax pulls the hair out at the root across a wide area in a few movements. For a clean result that lasts several weeks.
- Threading — The most precise technique for brows, upper lip, chin and cheeks. A twisted cotton thread catches hairs one by one, including fine down. No product, no heat: the method of choice for reactive skin or skin under treatment.
- Bikini waxing — From a basic bikini line to a high bikini or Brazilian, depending on the shape you want. We discuss it clearly before starting, so there is no ambiguity about the result.
- Hollywood waxing — Complete removal, done methodically and quickly to limit discomfort. Private room, total discretion, no judgement.
- Brow reshaping — Far more than just taking hair off: we redraw the line to suit your proportions. It is often what changes a face the most, for the smallest treatment on the menu.

Cleansing and application of a pre-wax product that protects the skin and helps the wax grip the hair.

With wax or thread depending on the area, working in sections and in the direction that limits discomfort and hair breakage.

Finishing
Checking and tweezing any remaining hairs. An area is finished when it is genuinely clean.

Soothing care
Application of a calming product to limit redness, and a reminder of how to avoid ingrown hairs.

Precautions and contraindications
Waxing is not advised on broken, sunburnt or irritated skin, on skin with a dermatological condition, or on areas treated with isotretinoin or a topical steroid. Do tell us about any current treatment, diabetes, fragile veins or anticoagulant medication. To limit ingrown hairs: gentle exfoliation twice a week from the third day, daily moisturising, and keep the razor in the cupboard between appointments.

Permanent hair removal
IPL hair removal
So you can stop going back. IPL targets the follicle itself, where waxing only removes the hair.
Try intense pulsed light (IPL) sends flashes of filtered light that the pigment in the hair absorbs. The heat produced travels down to the follicle and reduces its ability to grow a new hair. Since only hairs in their growth phase respond, the result builds over a series of sessions : that is how the method works, not a sales tactic.
One difference worth remembering before you come: for IPL you shave the area the day before. That is the opposite of waxing, which needs the hair left to grow. The light needs the hair under the skin, not above it.

- Assessment first. We look at your skin type and hair colour, check there is no contraindication, and run a patch test on a small area.
- Shave the area the day before. No wax, no epilator: the light needs the hair below the skin, not above it.
- Protective goggles for you and for the beautician, throughout the session.
- A warm tingling sensation with each flash, then a soothing gel. You walk out and get on with your day.

Precautions and contraindications
IPL is not advised on tanned or recently exposed skin, nor on white, very fair blonde or red hair: with no pigment, the light has nothing to target. It is also not advised during pregnancy, while taking photosensitising medication (certain antibiotics, retinoids, St John’s wort), with a current skin lesion or infection, or over a tattoo. No sun exposure and no fake tan before or after the session. If you have any doubt or relevant history, ask your doctor: we will discuss it together at the consultation.

Do you use laser or IPL?
IPL, and we would rather say so plainly: many people say “laser” to mean any permanent hair removal, but they are two different technologies. A laser emits a single wavelength; IPL emits a filtered spectrum. The principle is the same — the melanin in the hair absorbs the energy, the heat reaches the follicle and reduces its ability to grow a new hair. IPL covers a wider area with each pulse, which suits legs, arms and backs. If it is specifically a medical laser you are looking for, that means an aesthetic medicine clinic: we will tell you rather than let you come for nothing.
Wax or threading: which should I choose?
On large areas — legs, arms, bikini, underarms — wax is faster and more effective. On the face and brows, threading is far more precise: it catches fine down, allows a shape accurate to the millimetre and puts neither heat nor product on the skin. It is the recommended option for sensitive or reactive skin, or skin under dermatological treatment.
How long does the hair need to be?
Around 5 mm, which means two to three weeks without shaving. Any shorter and the wax will not grip, leaving the area patchy. If you are unsure, come in: we will tell you on sight rather than spoil the treatment.
Does bikini waxing hurt?
It is the most sensitive area and there is no point pretending otherwise — but it is brief and perfectly bearable. We work quickly, in small sections, and the discomfort drops noticeably over successive appointments as the regrowth becomes finer. An ordinary painkiller taken an hour beforehand can help the first few times.
How often should I come back?
At a regular rhythm. The point is to synchronise the growth cycles: after a few appointments the regrowth becomes finer and sparser, and the sessions quicker.
How do I avoid ingrown hairs?
Three habits are enough: gentle exfoliation twice a week from the third day after your appointment, daily moisturising, and above all no shaving between appointments — it is the razor that creates hairs growing back under the skin.
